Three fresh and delicious drinks for a much-needed detox and that all-important skin glow.

 

Oat Bran, Carrot and Berry Smoothie

Serves: 2

Prep time: 10 minutes

Calorie count: 150 calories (per serving)

 

Ingredients:

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp oat bran

1 tsp germ oil

100 ml carrot juice

2 oranges, juiced

1 tbsp honey

100 g mixed fresh/frozen berries

 

Method:

  1. Blend together the carrot juice, lemon juice, orange juice and berries.
  2. Add honey, oat bran, oil and blend again.
  3. Pour the drink into two small glasses and serve.

Tip: Garnish with blackberries and mint leaves threaded onto wooden skewers.

 

Wheat Germ and Egg Smoothie

Serves: 2

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 10 minutes

Calorie count: 175 calories (per serving)

 

Ingredients:

Ground cinnamon

Freshly grated nutmeg

2 tbsp wheat germ

400 ml whole milk

2 tbsp acacia honey

2 eggs, separated

 

Method:

  1. Mix the honey and egg yolks, and beat with an electric whisk until frothy and pale.
  2. Heat the milk until bubbles form at the edge of the pan. Do not allow the milk to noil.
  3. Whisk the eggs until stiff.
  4. Add the warm milk and wheat germ to the egg yolk mixture and blend with a hand-held blender until smooth and homogeneous.
  5. Add grated nutmeg and ground cinnamon to taste.
  6. Fold in the stiff white eggs.
  7. Divide between glasses and serve immediately.

Tip: Only use fresh eggs as there’s minimal cooking involved.

 

Aloe Vera and Papaya Shake

Serves: 4

Prep time: 15 minutes

Calorie count: 150 calories (per serving)

 

Ingredients:

125 ml aloe vera juice

2 large blood oranges

1 large papaya

 

Method:

  1. Cut four small slices of papaya to use as a garnish and set them aside.
  2. Peel the rest of the papaya, remove the seeds and roughly chop the flesh. Place in a blender. Blend until smooth, then pass through a fine sieve.
  3. Cut the oranges in half. Cut a slice from one of them into quarters to use as garnish and set aside. Squeeze the juice from the remaining oranges and sieve to remove seeds.
  4. Mix together the papaya, orange and aloe vera juice.
  5. Fill four glasses with ice, pour in the juice and garnish with the reserved papaya and range.

Tip: If you can’t find blood oranges, use grapefruit instead.
