The kitchen is one of the most-used rooms in the house, and it can be tough to keep it organized. But with a few simple tricks, you can store more in your kitchen and have everything within easy reach.
While we all want that kitchen remodel, for the time being, let’s think up some ideas that can help you optimize storage.
Here are our 7 favorite ways to store more in the kitchen.
1) Fill the Empty Space
Yes I know how ridiculously simple this sounds but it’s a heavily overlooking option in terms of consolidating your kitchen.
This is where creativity will really come in handy…
Every kitchen cupboard has a few shelves dedicated to just mugs. They are the most accumulated item in the kitchen, by far! So why not install a few mug hooks to the underside of a cabinet shelf? This can free up a lot of valuable storage real estate.
It can also help you store other items that have conveniently placed holes in them. Think oven gloves, aprons, and utensils. These hooks also add some nice contrast to the usual kitchen aesthetics.
Use The Inside Of Your Cabinet Doors
The inside of kitchen cabinet doors is a great place to store small items that can fit on a rack. Think spices, tea boxes, cleaning solutions, or even canned goods. If you’re tight on space, this is a great way to go.
This is also a favorite of ours because it’s so easy to do and it makes such a big impact. All you need is a few simple hooks or holders and some adhesive.
Maximize Countertop Space
This is a great option for those who are short on storage space, but have an abundance of countertop. I think a lot of people are scared of what will happen once they start utilizing their countertop to its full potential.
the countertops will only clutter if you let them. As long as you stay on-top of it and return each item back to its designated area post-cook, you’re golden.
Utilize the Back of Your Cabinets
This is a great option for those who want to maximize their storage potential, but don’t want anything too permanent. By installing a few shelves or hooks to the back of your cabinets, you can easily store pots, pans, and other large items.
This option is also great for those who like to keep their counters clutter-free. Another bonus? It’s also a great way to organize your pantry!
2) Get a Freestanding Kitchen Pantry
Most of us kitchen dwellers fail to recognize that there are cabinet options outside of the kitchen shelving that came with the house. Freestanding kitchen pantries can help consolidate without sacrificing any storage space.
It’s like having an extra cupboard that you can place anywhere in the kitchen! Plus there are both budget friendly and luxury options available for whatever you may require.
We love this idea for people who have a lot of kitchen gadgets and appliances that need a place to call home, or for those who like an excess of food storage (we are not one of those people).
3) Use a Rolling Cart
If you live in a small apartment or are constantly on the go, a rolling cart can be your best friend. This option is perfect for storing pots and pans, as well as other heavy items that don’t have a designated home.
You can also free up some countertop space by placing your microwave on the rolling cart. Being mobile, this also allows you to move the cart out of the kitchen for dinner parties or home events.
Just be sure to store it in a safe place when you’re not using it!
4) Get an Over the Sink Dish Rack
Over the sink dish racks are great for those who lack a dishwasher. It’s also a fantastic alternative to having the dish rack take up precious real estate on the kitchen counter. Not only does this free up countertop space, but it also looks super nifty.
If you’re like most kitchens, you may also have a window above the sink. Open this up and watch your dishes dry within a few hours.
Space saved and dishes dry!
Plus, if you get a nice one with a cover, it can double as extra storage! Win-win.
5) Install a Kitchen Island
Is your kitchen feeling a little cramped? A kitchen island can be the perfect solution to your storage woes. This is especially true if you have a lot of people in your household or like to entertain often.
Kitchen islands come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so there’s definitely one out there that will fit your needs. Not to mention, they add a touch of elegance and luxury to any kitchen.
Just be sure to measure your space before you go shopping!
6) Hang Your Pots and Pans
This is a great option for those who cook often and need easy access to their pots and pans. By installing a pot rack above your stove or oven, you can easily store and organize all of your cooking supplies.
Not only does this look nice, but it also frees up cabinet space. Double bonus!
Just be sure that the pot rack is installed safely and isn’t too heavy for your walls/cabinets.
7) Use a Magnetic Knife Strip
This is a great option for those who like to keep their counters clutter free. A magnetic knife strip can be attached to the back of a cabinet or even the side of your refrigerator. This gives you easy access to all of your knives while also keeping them organized and within reach.
Plus, it looks pretty cool too!
There are an endless array of ways you can get creative and optimize your kitchen for storage. These are just a few of our favorites and ones that really moved the needle.
We encourage you to remember that organizing the kitchen is a day by day process. It never happens all in one sitting so don’t let it overwhelm you. Take it from us, a little bit of progress each day will get you where you want to be in no time.
